This sale is for a RCA BC-5A tube consolette.
The mic transformers are the same as in theRCA BA-21 preamps. They are under the metal plate inside the mixer, but the terminals of the transformers can be seen in the pics ofthe interior of the mixer.
I have owned the consolette for over 20 years. The couplingcaps were replaced some years ago. The gain structure of the preamps weremodified to accept the output of condenser microphones and moving coil dynamicmics. The mixer was originally designed for ribbon mics, Using the mixer withcondenser or moving coil dynamic mics caused the preamps to overload too much in closemiced rock recording. The gain modification was done by changing resistors, andcould be restored by putting the original values in.
This mixer was modified for, and used by Steve Rosenthal atthe Magic Shop in New York City onvarious records, to submix microphones on an instrument while recording.
The mixer was tested a few months back and the 4 mic inputs,headphone amp, and loudspeaker amp work well.
As can be seen from the photos there are quite a few mods tothe piece.
The original hardware holding the top and front hinged panel closed and in place are not there.
This was not a concern while in studio but these panels would have to be held in place when moving.
Aside from the gain changes, all of these mods were donebefore I got it.
The mic inputs are transformer in, and the mono output ofthe mixer is transformer balanced. It\'s worth repeating that the mic transformers can’t be seen in the photosbecause they are under the metal chassis that the PCB’s are attached to. The mic transformers are the same as in theRCA BA-21 preamps. The terminals of the transformers can be seen in the pics ofthe interior of the mixer. It’s possible to put direct outs on these mixers, atthe output of each preamp card. The typical way to do this is using a stepdown transformer such as the output transformer from a BA-21. There were directoutputs on this one setup in a temporary fashion and worked very well, but wereremoved.
The history of the piece is that it was originally at the UnitedNations here in New York.
Because of age this piece is sold as is no returns.

I marked the sale pickup only but will work out a shipping method, but don\'t want to be at the mercy of the website calculator which has shorted me before. Due to the size of this item shipping boxes are not easily available.
This item will take some time to pack. Probably the bestway to ship is to have a wooden packing crate made and ship in that. Buyer is responsible for the cost of packing materials, labor is free.
