This is an amazing collector\'s lot. There are 17 total items, 15 Christmas/Holiday cards and 2 photographs (one was inserted into the 1948 Christmas card) featuring Seabiscuit, Charles and Anita Howard (his owners), the Howard family ranch (Ridgewood Ranch) and other horses from there. There are 15 Christmas cards, one from each year from 1935 to 1949, inclusive. Every card features a picture of the Howards, their ranch, or their horses (Seabiscuit is featured heavily, obviously) and a delightful message of good wishes for the holiday season and coming year.
There are nine total cards which feature Seabiscuit prominently. In addition, there is one card featuring the Howard Family in Hawaii, there is one featuring the Stallion Barn at Ridgewood Ranch, there are two featuring other named horses owned by the Howards (Kayak II and Coramine), there is one which features the \"Ridgewood Prospects\" (presumably Seabiscuit was one of these) and there is one which features mares and \"Little Biscuits\" (foals of Seabiscuit) with an insert depicting the memorial to Seabiscuit Charles Howard had built on his property. There is also an additional photo in this lot, presumably of Seabiscuit on the Howard\'s ranch, taken by an unknown source and dated to September 24, 1938 (which is only a month or so before Seabiscuit triumphed over War Admiral at the Pimlico Special that year).The cards are in a variety of sizes, the largest is 9 3/4 inches by 8 inches when closed, the smallest are 8 inches by 6 inches when closed. The additional photo is 4 1/2 by 2 5/8 inches.
All items are in good vintage condition, there is minimal wear to all items, foxing present on most items, and minor discoloration in the photograph. There are also pinholes on the top of the 1938 card. Please refer to photos and condition description for more information on the condition.
We are fairly certain this is the largest collection of these Seabiscuit Christmas cards ever offered for sale. This is a truly unique lot, and would make a beautiful addition to any collection of Seabiscuit memorabilia.
