Vintage Slingerland 4 String Tenor BANJO - extensive inlay
new calfskin head and new strings, ready to play
Here\'s a cool looking old banjo that is ready to play. This 4 string banjo has a new skin and new strings. The instrument measures about 30 inches long overall. The head is about 10 3/4 inches in diameter. String height at the 12th fret is about 5/64 inch (just under 4/64 treble side) with a 1/2 inch bridge. This is stamped \"Slingerland\" and looks like the May Bell banjos except that it is quite plain with little adornment beyond the pretty birdseye maple. There is an Elton \"hubcap\" resonator on the back.
Excellent condition. The head is newly installed calfskin. The tone ring and rim are bright but the brackets and hooks show a bit of \"patina\"... the accumulated evidence of decades of use. The fingerboard and frets show minimal wear. The neck is is great shape with no cracks or damage. One of the tuning peg buttons is cracked.
