***New Details added on 10/7/14:I received a question about the color on this piano and have added 5 additional photos using a different camera with a flash.
Some details on the finish are a little easier to see.
While the overall look of the piano in the room in which it currently sits is quite nice, the new photos point out some of the finer details on the finish, including some of the more difficult to see defects. Please look closely before offerding. Thank you ***Lovely 1864 Steinway & Sons Square Grand Piano.This piano belonged to my Mother-In-Law who recently passed away.Many years ago she made an inquiry to Steinway and Sons for information about it.Their response:Our records indicate Steinway and Sons Serial #9407 is a style 6 square grand, 7 octaves, in rosewood finish, which was manufactured in New York in 1864.
This instrument was delivered to Rev. Joseph P. Thompson of New York City on December 16, 1864.As a neat side note, the piano was serviced and cleaned several years ago, at which time the following inscription was found on the side of on one of the keys: \"Hurrah for Honest, Old Abe! Hurrah for Honest, Old Grant!\"The action on the keys is pretty decent. Does need a tuning for sure.
The keys themselves appear to all be in good shape. Need a cleaning.
There are a couple of water rings on top from where a glass or cup might have been left.
There is some slight build-up on the surface just above the keys.
I believe this can be cleaned off but will not attempt to clean myself since I\'m apt to do more harm than good.Piano is available for pick-up only.Hopefully the pics will provide any necessary details, please let me know if you have any specific questions.Thank you
