This ship had a great service record during 3 wars, WWII, Korea and Vietnam. It was a supply ship then converted to a destroyer tender. By the date on some coins we think the trench art was made during WW2. Some of the coins are from British Emperor Islands, Australia, India (rupee) and Republic of Panama. The coins are likely of silver mintage and could be from places the ship ported.
The ring of cartridges are soldered into place and appear to be those used in a .45 pistol.
The Cartridges are EMPTY OR INERT and for display only. No use besides that.
The plates are hammered or dimpled copper and the base plate appears to be a hardwood or masonite.
The matchbox holder is divided inside with a .30 caliber bullet. Again, empty or inert.It can be removed if you wanted to.
The condition is very nice with one cartridge having a dimple and some light wear and patina.
A few minor rubs. The bottom felt is mostly gone.
