This is an excellent and charming example of Japanese Buddhist folk art. A common prayer to the Amitabha (Amida) Buddha reading in Japanese: “Namu Amida Butsu”. The calligraphy is unusual and characteristic of Japanese folk art. The name ‘Tokumoto’ is inscribed at the bottom of the scroll.
