This is a very rarepouch that was made to attach tothe Model1847 Grimsley saddle and used to carry spare horseshoes.The 1847 Grimsley saddle was a military saddle extensively used during the Mexican War and all throughout the Civil War by both the North and primarily the South. This leather pouch is half moon shape that measures 6 and 7/8\" across and 5 and 1/4\" tall. It has been stored and not used for many years and is in great original condition. It is nice and complete withnice,strong stitching. It has never been messed with, cleanedor treated. All the straps are intact asare the buckles. The leather has become stiff over the years and some minor cracking is present. The straps seem strong enough to be undone to open the pouch but I have never attemped it in fear of doing irreversible damage. I can not see any maker\'s mark of any kind on it. Any serious Civil War collector is aware of how rare this accessory is and is getting more valuable every year. I have one see one other in my many years of collection Civil War rarities. The rare M1847 Grimsley saddle is much easier to find than this spare horseshoe pouch and is a must for any serious collector.
