Up for your consideration is a beautifully made mid-19th century Victorian cross, made from gutta-percha. The piece has a small hole at the top, so that it could be worn on a chain - these were usually worn and classified as mourning jewelry. This is a very intricate piece There is a central group of dimensional motifs on this piece: an anchor, another cross, a heart and flowers. Very well molded and detailed. It is 4" tall, and 2.75" across. It is mounted on a gold velvet mat and framed in an 8" x 6" oval. Excellent condition with no wear or discoloration. A fine and rare piece and shipping is FREE in the USA.Wikipedia: "In the mid-19th century, gutta-percha was also used to make furniture, notably by the Gutta-Percha Company (established in 1847). Several of these highly ornate, revival-style pieces were shown at the 1851 Great Exhibition in Hyde Park, London. Molded furniture forms, emulating carved wood, were attacked by proponents of the design reform movement, who advocated truth to materials.
