Vintage9 ft 3/2 Rod
Split Bamboo Fly RodBy: Leonard & Mills Co.Visit Our Other Items for SaleAdd to Favorite Sellers Description While technology continues its march forward, there are those of us who appreciate the charm of tradition. This rod ,whether it is used or simply admired, is a piece of history and it deserves a loving home.
Before I get into the meat of the description I need you to know that vintage fly rods are not my area of expertise. That said if you have any information, correction or questions please shoot me a message.
Lets start with the good, you will be getting a complete rod. You get the lower butt (?), a mid section and two tips. That being said one of the tips has been broken in two but you will get both halves.
(The measurements below are from ferrule to ferrule)
The Butt- 36.5 inches long & 73.8 gram. Starting at the very bottom we have the butt cap, it is a little loose but this seams to be because it wa only ever attached with a single small nail. Engraved on the cap is the Leonard Rod cartouche consistent with the 1887-1924 period. The traveling hood is in fine shape. The varnish on the seat itself has been worn through in all the expected places, please view the pictures. The grip is a cigar grip and while it is soiled from standard use it is still in excellent shape. There is a hook keeper in the lowest set of windings. The first issue we encounter on the rod is that the stripping guide has broken free of its windings. I still have the guide and you will be getting it, it is an agate stripping guide. On the top of the ferrule there are the marks Pat. Sep. 3. 1878 and below this is Pat. Oct. 26. 75. Other than the reel seat the varnish is in fantastic shape. Mid Piece - 36.5 inches & 32.9 grams. All the guides are snake guides. Other than this there isn\'t much to say about this piece. The varnish is great and there is no damage. Tip # 1 - 36.5 inches & 12 grams. Like the midpiece there isn\'t much to say about this tip. There is a bit more wear on the windings of the guides though.
Broken Tip - Approximately 36 inches & 11.6 grams. The break is after the second guide below the tip. The tip itself has an agate stripper. The varnish is in good shape and so are the windings.
You will also be receiving a canvas rod bag. This may or not be the original bag for the rod.

On May-01-15 at 07:37:20 PDT, seller added the following information:

I have received several questions regarding the rod\'s original tubing. The rod will come with the aluminum tube I got it in, this tube has brass end caps. The tube looks old and is very probably the original tube but I cant guarantee this. This is the same story for the rod bag, you will get one and its probably the original but I wont guarantee it.
