This is my very first alarm clock. It was given to me by my Grandmother who used it in their home from what in the 1930s and 40s. I got it in the middle 1950s and used it for several years until I go an electric one. After my Father passed, I was cleaning out his house and found this had been stored for years in a box in the basement storage room. I wound it up a little and it tricked, but only a a little and then slowed down, So I took it to a local established jewelry/watch repair store - and he lovingly took the back off, and gave it a a little oil and loving care and it ran like a champ- including that traditional ringer on the arm. So he cleaned the inside, (but NOT the outside) - and I took it home and checked the accuracy and etc., It works great.
My research on the Westclox Big Ben and Baby Ben sites indicates the manufacturing year was probably 1928 to 1930.
You can check at clockhistory.com
