This isa 1st generation (1950\'s era) Electro Voice 664 dynamic cardioid microphone. This piece has been thoroughly cleaned and tested. Often referred to as \"The Buchanon Hammer\" salesman would demonstrate it\'s toughness and reliability by pounding nails into a piecewood with the mic then hooking it up to show that it would still work without issue. This microphone was not used as a hammer obviously and it has survived the years with very lite wear. It comes with the cable shown.

The 664 was a revolutionary mic being tough, reliable, great sounding and having a uni-directional pattern only picking up what was directly in front of the microphone cancelling out all background noise. It was the standard for all other mics of it\'s era and sounds as good as any high quality mic built today if the 664 is in great working order.
Electro Voice offered a painted version of the 664 for situations where lighting might compromise cameras or cause unwanted glare. This is one of those models and it comes with original olive drab paint. It has an almost evil and certainly more masculine look.
The body on this664 shows just a few small paint scuffs, and chips as well as a couple small spots of discoloration as seen in the pictures provided. It has an impressive look however even after all these years of use.Iwould still rate the cosmetic conditionan easy 8 on a scale of1 - 10. The real beauty of this mic is the sound it produces. The front screens have no deformation but there is zero tarnish. The joint mechanism works perfectly. The on / off switches works just as it should and slides smoothly. It should be noted that this mic was originally set for LOW Z. This mic can be changed to High Z of course but that will be the buyers decision to make. High Z is great for harp use or an old school rockabilly sound. You have to change the wiring inside the lower pistol grip to make that happen or you can change the pin in the connector that attaches to this mic.
The mic takes a standard 4 pin screw on cable that is included. It\'s 5 feet long and in excellent shape being soft and pliable. it has the vintage Cannon XLR male end connector for use with most modern audio equipment.
A great 664 all around that will work perfectly on stage or a great piece in the \"Man Cave\", office, home or studio.
