Jerry Gilden started making dresses in 1945 and stopped making them in 1960. At one time he operated the fifth largest manufacturing company of women\'s wear. His plant occupied six city blocks and in Union City, New Jersey. At the peak of his success they made a million garments a year. This is why we still find Jerry Gilden dresses with some regularity. I\'ve actually owned this one for about 30 years, and 25 of those years were spent in a storage tub. What a waste! Someone needs to wear this. So I got it out, laundered it gave it a good press. Now I\'ve taken pictures of it for you. It\'s a really romantic, gorgeous piece of clothing. For some reason I want to call it. Elizabeth Taylor.
It is a small size. I\'m sorry, women used to be smaller on the average and that\'s kind of the curse of vintage clothing. This one also has some spots including one on the bodice. When I laundered it I used mild soap and hung it out to dry. I just didn\'t want to try to bleach out that spot and I have priced this accordingly. Something that\'s really cool about this dress, by the way, is that the hem of the super full skirt is faced with bias tape. This gives it a nice drape and fullness.
