This vintage 1961 Singer 500A, serial number NC356609, has been professionally disassembled, cleaned, lubed, adjusted and comes to the winning buyer ready to sew. During servicing the motor bearing, bobbin winding tire and all four rubber feet were replaced. Mechanical condition is excellent, and testing reveals smooth quiet operation, and a balanced stitch. Cosmetic condition is good with some paint chipping. All damage can be seen from the photographs included. If you have any questions regarding this machine, please contact me.

Singer produced the Slant-O-Matic 500A from 1961 to 1963, and was the model following the much loved 401A. Improvements over that previous model include the top mounted bobbin winder and dial selectable presser foot tension. With the exception of these improvements, all of the features that made the 401A so popular, are present on the 500. The slanted angle the needle and presser foot bars, from which the Slant-o-matic or slant shank names refer, move your project closer to you, providing a clearer view of the sewing surface. Class 66 bobbins and 15x1 (2020) needles mean supplies are available at any fabric or craft stores. A threading system and needle bar capable of handling two needles, even of different size, side by side. The lever operated throat plate allows darning for free-motion work, or removal for lint cleaning - No tools required! An all steel drivetrain provides superb reliability - No plastic gears to or timing belts to break. The direct drive motor has no belt to slip and supplies smooth control for delicate work and ample torque to power through heavy materials. Handy threading and stitch setting charts are provided under hinged covers for convenient access. Finally, in addition to the straight stitch, the built-in cam stack provides 27 specialty stitches, 20 of which have adjustable variations.

The included Singer buttonholer has been lubed, tested and produces beautiful button holes. With its adjustability, and button style choices you can produce button holes that rival modern computerized machines.

While they may seem heavy-duty, especially when compared to many models manufactured today, they are domestic home machines plain and simple. That being said, they are more than capable of sewing multiple layers of vinyl, leather, sailcloth, canvas, webbing, nylon and denim. Basically, it will handle anything your sewing projects can throw at it. Just don\'t expect them to sew heavy materials all day, every day.
