vintage EPI #1224 inverted 1\" dome tweeter for most of their late 1970s speakers For Sale

Offered for your consideration is a EPI / Epicure part #1224 1 inch inverted dome “air spring” tweeter. This tweeter was removed from an EPI Model 140C made in 1980 and was also used in their 70, 105, 110, 120, 180, 200, 500 and other speakers from the period. Please take a look at the large photos and read the remaining description to decide if this tweeter is correct for your needs.

Although the listing is written in singular to avoid any confusion, two (2) EPI #1224 tweeters are available. They were made a few weeks apart but they are otherwise identical. Please choose if you’d like to buy one or both in the quantity field at the top of the listing. The shipping cost will be automatically calculated by checkout.

This EPI tweeter is in clean, excellent condition. It has a flawless inverted dome and the hard plastic faceplate has no scratches or mounting hole cracks, just a few light marks on the gold enamel trim. Plus, the large ceramic magnet has no oxidation. And, the +/- terminals measure the industry-standard .205”, are marked for polarity, and have never been soldered on the spades. All-in-all, this vintage EPI tweeter is in great shape.

It’s been fully tested and sounds very strong and clear with fast, detailed midrange—it was crossed-over from the woofer at 1800Hz in most two-way applications—and crisp upper frequencies. Also, I tested the DC resistance at 6.0Ω, consistent with an 8 ohm nominal driver rating of the past. Lastly, the faceplate measures 5⅛”, it stands ⅞” tall, and the three mount holes are spaced 3⅞” apart, c-t-c.

This is a great find for someone that has a blown or damaged tweeter in their suitable EPI model and will have your speakers sounding their best again in no time! As pictured and described, this terrific EPI “air spring” tweeter is offered at a competitive price.
