This sale is for one used vintage intricately handcrafted/handmade/handcarved/hand painted wooden/bovine bone Mexican Folk (Aztec inspiration) chess set with folding wooden chessboard/storage case. I purchased this extraordinary set sometime in the early 1980\'s during one of my two visits to Mexico. At the time that I purchased this set I was fascinated by its aesthetic beauty created by its unusual composition of bovine bone, wood, and hand paint. Each piece is uniquely adorned by its own character of wood grains and knots accentuated with carved bone. The bovine bone looks to be hand carved and very ivory-like (this is not ivory or any other threaten or illegal species) while some of the the wood appears be be hand-turned on a lathe. The set is complete (32 pieces) and in excellent condition. From the time I purchased it, it has been protectively stored in the included wooden chessboard in my environmentally controlled closet in my house. I have never played a game a chess with it. I purchased it to be the center of attraction in my planned game room that I never built. The King measures about 5 3/4 inches tall, the Queen about 5 3/8 inches tall, the Bishop and Rook about 4 inches tall, and the Pawns about 3 inches tall. The board measures about 17 1/2 inches square and 1 1/2 inches deep. The board has no latching mechanism. The shipping weight of this item is about 7 pounds, so please understand that it will be somewhat expensive for me to ship (I am a very small business and do not have huge volume discounts with the carriers).

I have retired and moved from a 5 bedroom house in New York to a 3 bedroom house in Florida with no basement (attic and garage are too hot to store anything), so I must sell a lot of my stuff. Unfortunately I must part with many things that I love, such as this unique work-of-art chess set. Please help me adapt to a smaller house and buy some of my well cared for things. This item is from a smoke free environment.
