Vintage Pair of Acoustic Research AR 3a Speakers...Consecutive Serial Numbers!!
In pretty nice shape considering the age of these cabinets. There are some scratches on top which is pretty typical for speakers of this age. Original woofer frames but surrounds appear to have been replaced at some point (don\'t know when). Acquired at yard sale and their history is not known.There is an advertisinglabel on the back, indicating these may have been serviced at SpeakerWorks in Syracuse, NY.
The amazing thing is that the Serial numbers are sequential! 63440 & 63441!!! I tested these briefly and found that these need new caps in the crossovers because the sound is NOT CLEAR. One midrange does not produce sound but both tweeters do work. I do not have time to refurbish these. I have owned AR-3a speakers before and know they are one of the most sought after speaker systems and well worth refurbishing.
The AR-3a is a three-way speaker and measures approximately 25\" x 14\" x 11½ \" inches and weigh about 47 lbs each. Cabinets are made of real walnut veneer, grills are newer and black in color...probably not original fabric. Each speaker has a 12 inch woofer, a dome midrange and a ¾ inch dome tweeter. High and mid-frequencies can be additionally adjusted at the back of each speaker
