Vintage Siamese Cats/Kittens TV Lamp Very Rare Leland Claes 1950's Excellent :
$136

This Vintage Extremely Rare Hard to Find Claes Glowing-Eyed Siamese Twin Kittens T-V Lamp is what the catalog list its name and it's from the 1950's and it is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks and very clean, but shows some crazing, but normal for this type of pottery and age,and I put a good cord with a plug on it,so it is safe and ready to use,but everything else is original, bulb socket etc..Marked on back of the Kitten sitting up,reads,Claes Copyright(shown in picture),and it has and Underwriters Laboratories label on the inside also(shown in picture)And it has slits in the pottery in the tops of the Kittens Eyes to omit the light through them,(shown in pictures),too. It measures 10 1/2"inches long with the switch, and 9 1/2"inches long for just the pottery, and 6 1/4"inches tall to the top of one of the Ears, and about 3 1/4"inches thick at thickest part, and it weighs 1 pound,13 ounces before any packaging.A little history about the maker"Designed by Leland Claes,a virtual in most pottery circles, his designs are appreciated almost exclusively by TV Lamp enthusiasts,Claes was born in Turlock,California on August 31st,1916.Leland was a loner, and as a result the details of his time as a pottery designer are rather vague, even to those close to him.Claes Lamps are distinctive, many are quite rare, and they often fetch $$$. His initial work in ceramics design was for Arthur Ball at the highly-regarded Ball Art Pottery, which he worked for from 1944 to 1952,Leland created many outstanding pieces pieces there. In 1952 Claes left Ball to design and manufacture independently, and established his Morongo Valley studio, demand increased, and Leland opted to take his designs to the William H.Hirsch Manufacturing Company, thus began the period in which the best-known Claes designs were produced. The length of his association with the Los Angeles based Hirsch Manufacturing is unclear, but it was likely a 5 or 6 year span, and no records of that company exist after 1959.Information from TVLAMPS.NET.After that bit of history, you see why I say extremely rare TV Lamp!No bulb will be included,so you can pick your own watt bulb desired. It displays Beautifully and works great and would add very nicely to any collection or decor!
