Vintage WW2 US Army Signal Corps TE-6 Mechanics BC-77 Chest 1943 - Tool Chest:
$275.00

This piece is in great condition given its age. Original paint with both internal drawers present. There is age expected weathering as well as nicks and dings from use, but overall it is still very sturdy and hefty - seriously, this thing is solid with the original fasteners which would have held the hacksaw and pliers still present. I see this as a great piece for a collector of militaria or for somebody who plans to use it for what it is and appreciates its military past.

Measures approximately 31”x16”x13”

Weight 74lbs

Founded in 1860, the United States Army Signal Corps has served the vital role of managing communications and information control systems within the Army armed forces. From its early beginnings utilizing aerial telegraphy to modern encrypted satellite telecommunications, the Signal Corps has continuously evolved to serve the present needs of the Army.

During World War 2, with the advent of radar and portable radios, the Signal Corps saw its greatest period of growth, eventually reaching more than 350,000 active duty officers and enlisted men. Through these new technologies, along with the increased versatility of photography and film, the Signal Corps played a vital role in the United States and their allies ability to achieve command and control throughout the war which eventually led victory in both Europe and the Pacific.

This particular mechanics chest, formally classified as the TE-6 (tool equipment) mechanics chest, would have included various tools and supplies from pliers and screwdrivers to a hacksaw and blowtorch, and served as the means by which Signal Corps personnel maintained the communication systems of the Army. See last photo for completed original chest.

Manufactured in Philadelphia, PA and obtained by me out of southern New Jersey, it is possible that this particular tool chest could have been used at nearby former Fort Monmouth in Monmouth County, New Jersey, home of the United States Signal Corps from 1919 until 1974.
