Vintage MARK HOPKINS Hotel San Francisco Heavy EP Silver Soldered GORHAM Gravy/Sauce Boat. The maker's mark reads: MARK HOPKINS, 1926, GORHAM EP SILVER SOLDERED, 012759, 4 OZ. It measures 3¼" tall at its highest point, 1¾" depth to fill-line, 3" wide, and 6½" spout to handle. It weighs 10 oz. Wear on this piece is consistent with age and use. There is minor pitting on the inside (see pictures), many wear marks from normal use but no dents, and beautiful patina overall.
The Mark Hopkins Hotel opened its doors in 1926 and Gorham was commissioned to manufacture custom made tableware. Soon approaching the now InterContinental Mark Hopkins San Francisco Hotel, will be celebrating its 100 years. And as the hotel reaches its centennial so too will this piece of history, and will transition from vintage to antique.
