Circa 1970 handmade Triqui huipil from the Sierra Madre mountain region of southern Oaxaca Mexico. Fabric is a mid-weight cotton hand woven on a back strap loom in red patterned bands on a white base. Embellished with supplementary weft brocade in both cotton and wool threads in pink, green, yellow and orange colors. Crafted of three long panels joined with a rudimentary whip stitch. Front seams are decorated with a traditional wide satin ribbon in yellow. Neck opening is also decorated with a sewn ribbon detail and two streaming ribbons at the back. Measures 32\" wide and 43\" long. Head opening is 22\" around and wide armholes are 30\". Huipil is in excellent used condition with light signs of wear and a few small spots.
