W.W.I GERMAN LOZENGE CAMOUFLAGE FABRIC (REPRODUCTION):
$7.95

Shortly after the reunification of Germany in 1990, an inspection of the exhibits in former East German aviation collections revealed an appalling state of condition. Specifically, a couple of very rare Halberstadt aircraft were found to be needing a complete replacement of the original 5-color lozenge camouflage fabric originally applied in 1917. A firm called Silberstreif GmbH. was commissioned to reproduce this material. Using the original dye formulae and a computer analysis of the existing fabric, Silberstreif was able to reproduce an exceptionally accurate replacement, right down to the number of stitches per centimeter. I was able to obtain samples of both the upper and lower 5-color fabric sheets from Silberstreif and am making small amounts of this material available to the modeler and aviation historian. If you win this sale, you will receive two 8 1/2 x 10\" paper sheets of the lozenge camouflage pattern with an approximately 1 square inch piece of fabric from each of the 5 upper and 5 lower surface colors attached. One sheet for the upper surface colors, and one sheet for the lower surface colors, as shown in the third photo, close-ups of each sheet in photos 5 and 6. Please note that each of the color samples are cut by hand, and the ones that you get will not necessarily be the exact size/shape that you see in the representative photos. The diagram shows the location of each color in the lozenge pattern. Use the reproduction fabric color samples to check the accuracy of your existing decal sheets and paints, or simply come up with your own new formulations. I have included diagrams of typical factory applicaton of this fabric on a Fokker D.VII airframe. The photos of the museum Halberstadt CL.IV used in this listing are simply to illustrate how the actual lozenge fabric was applied to the restored aircraft, and are not included in this sale. Please ask if you have any questions prior to offerding. Free shipping to US address, $1.95 airmail to rest of the world.
