William Herbert Palmer was born in London, England about1875, then was living in Burwood, New South Wales working as afitters labourer pre war. He enlisted into the 14th Reinforcements 4th Battalion on 8/11/1915.He left Australia bound for Egypt in February 1916, landing on 29/3/1916, justin time to deploy to France landing on 4/4/1916.
He was hospitalised with a deformed toe on 26/5/1916 andbounced about various depots until posted to the 1st ANZAC Headquarters inNovember 1916, he spent the rest of the war attached to various Higher Headquarterspossibly as a officer’s batman. He returned to Australia for discharge on22/8/1919.
