Vinyard ASN 36046420 awarded SILVER STAR medal GENERAL ORDER 55 (1944) of HQ, 6th ARMORED DIVISION. see Hall of Heroes website: of the damage was inflicted on the 1000Germans defending Armaucourt. The town was contesteduntil Capt. Walter G. \"Snuffy\" Smith, Ada, Okla.,with his 69th Light Tank Co., supported by TDs, delivereda \"one-two\" punch. TDs stood back and blasted away withdelayed-fuse shells at buildings. When Germans sprang outto escape, Co. D mowed them down with machine gun firefrom light tanks. They killed 182 and captured 310. Theknockout plan was the brain child of Lt. Col. Ralph H.McKee, Shawnee, Okla., CC B executive officer.-A key man in the attack was S/Sgt. George D. Vinyard,69th Tanker from Rock Island, Okla., whose bold actionfrom his light tank\'s turret knocked out seven bazookateams and accounted for 26 more Germans.

-US Army drafted enlisted from 6th CORPS OF INDUCTION with HARVELL, MO. as NOK address. stamped M-1939 yellow monel alloy 1st pattern. blood type/relig pref designated. early T-41 1941 tetnus....probably his stateside tags. a neckcord suspension loop is still attached to the neckcord hole. i am virtually certain he was wearing 2-line formatted overseas deployment M-1940 tags in the ETO. 69th TANK BATTALION received unit citation for BASTOGNE. he was not killed during his SILVER STAR combat action....but probably at a later date.
