This furnace can be run with no power since it uses a millivolt thermostat (that's usually not included but most battery powered stats will work.) If your neighborhood is without power this furnace will still work, by convection, to heat a house. I plan to install it in my daylight basement to take the chill off and, if the power fails, keep the rest of the house reasonably warm. I live in Wisconsin, and the winters are kind of long here ,and I did heating and ac for thirty years and have seen plenty of frozen houses because of power failure so, I'm just saying, heat here is important and the simpler the system the more reliable it's going to be.
