    Straight Ahead swinging

    If you like Al Grey, this is a good example of his playing in the late fifties and early 1960s. The tunes are all very straight ahead, nothing too adventurous. Al is in his comfort zone throughout both albums. Al Grey is definitely a master of the plunger technique and he exhibits it on numerous cuts. Billy Mitchell is a good second voice to have on the albums. Very straight ahead with a big full sound. They were bandmates with Basie and Dizzys Big Band of 1957 and collaborated well into the 1980s and 90s.
