  • All hail Pat McManus

I recommend everyone read at least one Patrick McManus story in their lives. He is dry as toast, and never writes anything longer than 4-5 pages; but the man is absolutely hysterical. The bulk of his subject matter dwells on the unique experiences of his youth in the backwoods of Idaho. Granted this isn't a topic that would neccesarily resonate with a large audience, but I guarentee he'll draw you into the hillarious events involving a young McManus and his cast of maybe fictitious, maybe real characters. Buy it, read it, laugh at it.

  • Good read and lots of laughs.

  • More pearls from McManus

I was raised on the tride and true thechniques that Pat McManus had honed and his antics and his buddies of old. After about 45 years of reading and rereading the only four books that we had I felt that there must be more pearls from McManus floating out in the forum of other Books. I needed to find some new books to expaned my knollege. I started looking for other McManus Teaching tools and was so happy when I found some books online. I went and purchased 17 or 18 new books off of e-bay to fill in the spaces that I had on my bookshelf.

  • A Fine and Pleasant Misery

This book is the best of Patrick McManus. It contains stories of his childhood camping escapades (camping being "the fine and pleasant misery") with his dog, Strange; his friend, Retch; and his personal Old Man, Rancid Crabtree, all told in a hilariously exaggerated and earthy narrative. This is a laugh-out-loud book which must be read aloud to be fully appreciated. When you need a trip back in memory (if nothing more than to remind you why you no longer go camping!), this is the perfect book for it.
