I had a older version of this, much older Radio Shack brand and the heating element went out, I found a iron on line that had a similar shape and end screws was able to adapt it to my desoldering tool parts and used it for a while, but it had a very thin power cord. This one ECG/NTE model I used on a old circuit and it worked well. On a side note still need to watch how long this iron or other iron is on a transistor leg. Transistors don't do well under this kind of heat, but you also need the heat to melt the solder especially the newer no lead solder.

15- 30 seconds after I plugged the iron in it started smoking and fuming. I got a head ache immediately after and still have it 30 minutes later. I am very disappointed. The tip did not even heat up before it started fuming. DO NOT BUY!

I needed a desoldering tool for a project I was attempting so I bought this tool. It works fine, and would be fine for most jobs, however, I'm desoldering components on a DC to AC inverter board where they use a ton of soldier to bolster current connectivity between components. In my opinion this product could use another 15 watts of power. Desoldering components that have a heavy layer of solder is doable but it takes time. For 95% of the time, this will work fine.

I purchased this product because I need the remove some IC chips from my computer board. This desoldering gun worked great. I highly recommend it.

Functional and easy to use one handed. Very well built for the cost. Easily and quickly removes solder from soldered components on PC boards with one handed operation instead of separate iron and solder remover.
