Powering up the unit for me was easy because i have a 7 point trailer plug wired up at the rear of my prairie. This is a simple solution for this and many other items to get 12v power source and pulling small trailers with lights when needed. Some of the people have said it throws salt or seed all over the back of their quad, I'm guessing they cut the lighter adapter off the power lead and connected directly to power. I would also guess the connected the power backwards forgetting that it will still spin with the + an - flipped, just backwards and will spray all over your quad. This is a great little unit, it is able to hold 2 50lb bags of rock salt at a time and spreads with a good cover at about 15' wide. Didn't jam up with rock salt, or chloride. Needs the occasional shake to keep it feeding constant but not a big deal. I didn't have any issues with it spraying salt all over the back of my quad but it could easily have a mud guard mounted between it and mine if I felt it necessary. I have 2 100+ car parking lots that i plow and salt and this got the job done. It has actually replaced my tailgate salter for this season and I will buy a new one of those in the off season, or I might just keep using this depending of how the rest of this season goes. The mechanics are all plastic. The lever is too close to the mounting bars. Flow adjustment is hard to use.

Would be a better product if it had a shield where seed or fertilizer would not hit you while spreading ….
