This iron is really all I need. It heats up and is ready to use in a few seconds, and then holds its temperature perfectly forever. The little heating LED turns on and off every few seconds, so the heat is held stable. This is a night and day difference from the Alibaba china special adjustable temp iron I was using in the past, which took forever to heat up and I could never trust the heat setting. This is a pleasure to work with. The stock tip is fine enough for my application, which is mostly prototype board pin spacing, but I did stock up on a couple of extra fine tips just in case. Haven't tried SMD yet. Anyways, great iron, and I see no need to move up to a table top version.
