Lindburg has never been good at detail or accuracy, but for a beginner modeler, this is as simple as it gets. For more advanced assembly, this size is perfect for someone who doesn't want to display 1/700 or have space for a 1/72 scale model. The cunning tower has no detail at deck level whatsoever and the only attempt at detail in the hull are inaccurate attempts at indicating vents. Props will need to be replaced and a ton of sanding of the included decking will be required to get the model even close to accuracy. I'll be scrapping the decking that came with the model, recess the top of the hull a bit and add scored teak deck veneer. Enough information about the Gato class exists on the web, as well as at least two existing subs on display in the U.S. to detail the model to replicate just about any hull number. Speaking of which; The interior of the hull is free of sprews or die artifacts. And a gazillion interior drawings are available online, so if you're interested in displaying the layout, it's doable. I'm seriously contemplating it, but the derth of commercially available 1/240 components will make the task challenging. With luck, 1/200 PE rails and many 3D printed valve wheels will help reduce the labor. Most difficult for me will be accurately correcting the forward hull vents, but when it's done, I'm sure this'll make a stunning addition to our library. Read full review

The bad : The parts don't fit together well, the hull is not straight & conning tower is somewhat out of scale. The good : The hull is great to cut up and convert into GUPPY variants.
