The listing says that this is hardened 1045 tool steel, but it is not. The first strike of this hammer onto heated steel for forging left a large gouge in the face of the hammer. I would avoid this seller unless they get better at heat treating their work. They should just list the measured hardness of their hammers so they can be verified.

A really high quality instrument at a great price. Although it was promptly shipped out, it spent a leisurely 9 days at a post office awaiting further transport. It arrived in excellent condition. This is no reflection on the seller. You can't control the post office.. I would not hesitate to buy from this seller again
