1988-89 Dallas Mavericks Bud Light Card Night Set - RARE - Never Released - BRAND NEW STILL IN POLY BAG!. In 1988-89 the Dallas Mavericks had a 14 card unnumbered set produced by Jim Bouton\'s Big League Cards. The set was to be handed out to fans on Basketball Card Night. However, after the cards were printed and before the scheduled Card Night promotions, several things happened: star Roy Tarpley, got suspended - again; and star Mark Aguirre got traded. The Mavericks decided not to release the set and had new more updated set printed for card night. If you look at Beckett basketball card price guide you will see both the 1988-89 card sets listed. There was also an article in Sports Collectors Digest in 1988 or 1989 discussing this set and the fact that the Mavericks decided not to release it. I was lucky enough in 1989 to get my hands on some of these sets. The Mavericks had each set in a zip polly bag ready to be handed out. These sets are still in the poly bag and have never been opened. Since the bags are zip seal I will open your set before I ship it to make sure all 14 cards are in there. The set is printed on card stock, in the design that Big League Cards used at that time. This set includes all of the Maverick\'s big names from the late 1980\'s.The set includes: Derek Harper, Brad Davis, Morton Wiley. Rolondo Blackman, Bill Winnington, Mark Aguire, Detlef Schempf, Uwe Blab, James Donaldson, Terry Tyler, Roy Tarpley, Sam Perkins, John McLeod and a Coaching Staff card. Detlef Schempf was the first German player to pay for the Mavs, too bad he was not quite as good a Dirk Nowitzki or Luka Donic. Ifyou are a Mavericks fan, your collection is not complete without this extremely hard to find set. The corners, edges and surfaces will be mint, as they are still in the original poly bags. These cards have been stored in a smoke-free, temperature controlled environment since I acquired them in 1988/89. This would make a great gift for your Maverick or NBA fan.
