2022 Cook Islands $5 Aba Panu Meteorite 1oz Silver FDI - PCGS PR70DCAM This 2022 Cook Islands $5 Aba Panu Meteorite 1oz Silver coin is graded a PR70DCAM by PCGS and is a First Day of Issue. The mintage of this coin is 2500 and is sold out at the mint. The coin comes with a themed display box and Certificate of Authenticity. This coin is the 18th release in the "Meteorite Impacts" series started by CIT in 2004.
A large fireball detonated over the Nigerian state of Oyo on the afternoon of April 19, 2018. A meteoroid entered the Earth’s atmosphere. The extra-terrestrial rocks dug deep cracks and craters in the dry soil of Africa. They were named after the village of Aba Panu, located near the center of the strewn field.
The reverse features an ultra high relief depiction of the Nigerian state of Oyo where the meteoroid field is located. Inserted in the coin is a small piece of the meteorite. Inscriptions include "ABA PANU", "METEORITE 2022" at the bottom of the coin and coordinates to the Aba Panu meteorite field at the top.
The obverse features the right-facing effigy of Queen Elizabeth II and includes the inscriptions: “ELIZABETH II”, “COOK ISLANDS”, the initials “IRB”, and “5 DOLLARS”
