Sweep the area clean from dust and water, (apply torch beforehand to dry any wet areas) stick tape across the joint removing the separation layer as you go. Lightly torch over the tape to melt it into the jointed line, (kiln dried sand or grit can be sprinkled onto the hot tar joint if additional "non-slip" is needed), the joint will then be waterproof and "welded" together for a long lasting repair.
