It is difficult to read the embossed lettering on this bottle except with certain lighting conditions. The bottle is dirty on the inside and needs to be cleaned. The last photo is of advertising from the the other seller.
The bottle is in really solid dug condition - no chips or cracks or damage. It has some minor ground stain and wear/scuffs/scratches from usage, especially concentrated towards the heel with some fisheyes(no glass missing) as you often see in blobs of the era. If you are the type to look for \"diamond in the rough\" bottles to tumble yourself, this is an absolutely primo candidate. It\'s most of the way there really, just needs the slight sickness and rust removed.
I found this info on another sale where the bottle sold for $285! My bottle for sale is exactly the same bottle.
Very nice rare and crude piece of 1880s St. Louis bottling history. It\'s a super attractive dug example of a very unique combo soda and medicine and tonic. It\'s embossed on the front, \"ADDINGTON\'S / PHOS FERRONE/ IRON TONIC (*backwards \"N\"*) / COPYRIGHTED \" and on the back towards the heel \"BOTTLE / REGISTERED\". Around the shoulder it has 8 large \"hobnail\" dots embossed in the glass, which seem to be purely cosmetic. The bottle is a medium aquamarine color. It has a very attractively formed narrow applied blob lip and stretched lines on the neck. It\'s nicely whittled and with orange peel texture throughout. It was blown in a two part mold and has a recessed circular smooth base with \"P F\" on it.I did some research on this one and I\'m glad I did because it revealed some interesting stuff. The Phos-Ferrone company started in 1884 and had some success, enough success locally that a knockoff competitor soon attempted to steal their branding and a court battle ensued. Phos-Ferrone won the case, and I suspect the repeated embossed warnings and unique branding (\"Copyrighted\", \"Bottle Registered\", \"PF\" mark on base, the distinct hobnail dots) are attempts to scare off would-be knockoffs and create a bottle so distinct as to be unmistakable to the consumer. It\'s a Private Mold rather than a slug plate - specially commissioned by the Phos Ferrone company. And with the really unique backwards \"N\" in Tonic, I suspect this may have been the first iteration of the mold before the \"N\" was fixed, as all other examples of this bottle I could find had the \"N\" correct. Don\'t take my word for it just try and find one with the \"N\" error!
