It gives me great pleasure to announce that Chandos Publications, in association with Robert Forsyth at Chevron Publishing, can now bring to the aviation book market the first in what we hope will be a long-running compendium relating to the Luftwaffe and co-belligerent air forces. Drawing on the talents of many well known names in the Luftwaffe research and writing community, each issue will be packed with stories, photographs and artwork. There are many fascinating pieces of information on the Axis air forces that are still unpublished, and are too short for a regular book but also too important to sit on a forgotten computer hard drive ad finitum. ‘Axis Wings’ aims to make these stories known, accompanied by specially commissioned artwork, and photographs from private collections. Each issue will be approximately 200 pages long, in softcover format. We initially plan to release two issues per annum. The success of this project very much depends on how well the concept is received, but as long as there is a demand we will keep going. We hope that ‘Axis Wings’ will grow organically, and become self-perpetuating, and to that end we welcome the submission of stories, photographs and comments for future editions. We work closely with distribution partners Worldwide if you prefer to purchase by mail or at a store in your home country. The second issue is currently planned for release in mid-2024.

Our friends at Chandos Publications have a fantastic new publication available for pre-order.We were fortunate to get a sneak peek, and can confirm that this will be a wonderful addition to the book collection of any aviation historian.Amongst the in-depth articles is one by Sven Carlsen, lead-author of the forthcoming Air War Publications book, Nachtjagd on the Eastern Front. Sven’s focus in his Axis Wings article is the little-known Nachtjagdstaffel Finnland, which morphed into Nachtjagdstaffel Norwegen when Finland broke with Axis forces in 1944. The background, formation and activities of these small units are described in detail in his eight-page article, and it is well-illustrated. Many missions are detailed in a diary-type format, as well as mention or introduce all of the known pilots who flew with these units. A list of its losses and victories are also included. Sven’s article is accompanied by twelve photographs, including several of the lone Heinkel 219 that was operated by the units, along with two colour profiles of Ju 88s.Editors Rich Carrick and Robert Forsyth are well-known to aviation and Luftwaffe aficionados, and they intend to make this a long-running series. It will neatly fill a void left by the cessation of the Luftwaffe Verband, and will nicely complement Axel Urbanke’s Luftwaffe im Focus and Eagle Editions’ Wings of the Black Cross.We look very much forward to this publication and hope this first issue will be enjoyed by many.

Since the publication of our last book, things have changed. From 1 July 2021, the Brexit transition period ended and the United Kingdom has left the European Union. From this date forward, EVERYTHING sold to a country outside of the UK counts as an export, and as such could be subject to tax.

EU member states require an IOSS (Import One Stop Shop) number on parcels sent from the UK, although this is optional. From 1 July 2021, UK for example has been providing an IOSS number for customers in EU countries once checkout is completed. If you purchase the book on , I will make sure this number is visible on your parcel to tell the customs officials in your country that you have already paid the relevant taxes at point of purchase. The VAT rate for books and printed papers is 0% in the UK, but it may well be different for your country. The good news is that have an entire team dedicated to working out the tax rates for you – these should be visible on your pre-order summary just before you complete checkout, and will be based on 1) the applicable VAT rate for the type of goods you have bought 2) the value of the goods. If you are purchasing a ‘buy it now’ item then the applicable tax should be visible before you complete checkout.This rule covers items worth less than €150 / £135, regardless of whether there is one item or multiple items in the order. For orders worth more than €150 / £135, please see below. Some countries such as Australia (ABN numbers) and some US States have already implemented the collection of taxes at point of purchase, so if you are in these countries you will in many cases be familiar with the collection of tax when buying on UK. If any additional codes are required for your parcels, then I am confident that will provide me with them. I will then in due course make sure they are visible on any paperwork or address labels, to show you have already paid your tax.
