Up for sale is a rare Key Imports unpainted Southern Pacific C-9 Consolidation complete with a C-100 class tender. The model labeled 2819 was made by Samhongsa of Korea in 1981. Only 100 of this model were made. I am the original owner. The model came with a switcher pilot and the later (1940s/50s) headlight.
This model features a quiet, smooth running can motor, decent quality castings, reasonable cab detail and straight running boards. The tender is the very popular 10,000 gallon cylindrical style and features a removable oil bunker which makes DCC conversion much easier. You can add additional weight to the engine and still have plenty of room for a decoder in the tender. I grade the condition out at a C-8 taking off 2 points due to the finish surface starting to show some discoloration after 42+ years of storage. The model was test run only and has no wheel wear. Model is mint except for the brass finish which has minor discoloration issues which pose no issue for someone painting this beautiful model. I have installed a Kadee coupler on the tender to test stock model pulling power
The Southern Pacific had hundreds of 2-8-0s across the C-8, C-9 and C-10 classes. All three classes are near identical. This model can be used to model any of the three classes. If you study photos, you will see that engines in these three classes had either straight or stepped running boards. This feature varied by engine and not by class. This particular model is an example of a stepped running board engine. Key made models of both variations but under different model numbers. These C-8, C-9 and C-10 engines used a wide variety of 9,000 and 10,000 gallon cylindrical or rectangular tenders and a some even used 12,000 and 7,300 gallon tenders or haystack style tenders. The included 100-C tender is probably the most common tender style found used with these consolidations.
The model comes with the original box and packaging and includes the nut driver and an extra parts bag.
