Key Brass Imports SP GS-4 4-8-4 Daylight
The brass model of the famous Southern Pacific #4449.
It has been upgraded for layout operation:
- Tsunami DCC sound decoder installed
- Tender floor is drilled to convert the entire tender into a speaker enclosure
- Locomotive headlights are golden-white LEDs, with Mars effect on the upper lamp
- Tender light is a golden-white LED (directional, Rule-17 dimmable)
- The locomotive cab has a red micro-LED with flickering effect to simulate firebox reflections
- Micro-Trains couplers are installed on both the tender and the locomotive pilot
- Number decals applied to the running boards
Locomotive mechanism runs well, has been run on a layout recently for testing. Decoder has been programmed with sound and lighting effects that match the prototype, and acceleration/brake/momentum settings appropriate for realistic operation.
The factory paint is in excellent condition - original box\'s foam had not degraded. Due to the machining of the brass necessary for both DCC decoder and pilot coupler installation, some paint touch-up was required, mostly on underneath or unobservable surfaces (see pictures, questions welcome).
Because the locomotive and tender are now permanently joined (wires running between them), the model is packaged in a ReBoxx replacement case box with custom foam, polyethylene wrap to protect the paint, and Daylight-logo label. Coupler-to-coupler the model is exactly 8.5\" long
