Using methods developed by me with excellent attention to detail
The unitispresentedin a Labeled, Retail Quality, Reusable, 4 Mil Poly Ziplock Bag and is wrapped with a Reusable Velcro Strip to keep the leads organized and ready for use.
This dual probe setup, serves as a substitute for the mostly missing or incomplete original test probe which used a switch at the tip of the probe to switch the Resistor in/out of the circuit.
This Siamese or Dual-Probe arrangementinvolves using one probe for DC Measurement (with the resistor installed) and the other probe for AC/Ohms Measurement.
While the idea of the "Siamese Probe" has been around for years
- I personally developed the printed laminate label and heat shrink tubing technique seen on these probes (copied by others)
- I personally created the hot glue injection strain relief technique as well as tools and fixtures to implement it, which results in the most durable and long lasting probes available for these meters today!(this process is not currently duplicated in probes made elsewhere)
The probes are built from the same components used in my kits whichis composed of the following items(many of which are hard to source economically):
1 Pair of TestProbes - 1 Red/1 Black - Genuine Philmore Probes (not Chinese probes)
1 1/4" Mono Phone Plug w/Metal Housing and Clear Heat Shrink Sleeve
1 1Meg Ohm 1 Watt Resistor
1 Alligator Clip & Heat Shrink Tubing
2 Laminated Self Adhesive Probe Labels and Clear Heat Shrink Tubing to cover the probe labels, resulting in a professional and durable setup (see photos)
2 36" lengths of RG174 Coaxial Wire (used for DC & AC/Ohms test Leads) (Very Flexible - makes a great test lead)
1 36" Length of 18 Gauge Rubber Test Lead Wire (Very Flexible - HighQuality)for the Ground Lead
The original instructions specify shielded cable for the leads, the original supplied wire was a coaxial microphone style wire, many people use either standard (unshielded) test probe wire for the leads or a shielded coaxial cable, Iuse shielded black RG174 for the 2 leads andBlacktest probe wire for the ground.
IUse these probes on my Heathkit IM-11,IM-18 and IM-28 meters with excellent results, and these meters are indespensible for working on Vintage Radio Gear (And I prefer them to my more modern FET meters for this type of work)
