These superlative full range speakers were manufactured in Britain between the years 1996 - 2000, and reproduce 40Hz to 20kHz +/- 3dBThey transform jazz, orchestral, rock, hip-hop, all types of music into an experience with astounding clarity and drive. They are a matching pair with consecutive serial numbers.
The first innovation and most significant of these was the Uni-Q composite midrange/ tweeter. There is a second lower midrange driver, and lastly, the aptly named coupled-cavity bass loading: that is, two eight inch base drivers facing one another and bound together in order to cancel extraneous resonances inside the large ported enclosure. Uni-Q is KEF's answer to the theoretical ideal of a point source loudspeaker. The tweeter assembly is mounted in the neck of the midrange cone where normally a dustcap would be sited, such that the two diaphragms are co-axial and co-planar; that is to say, their acoustic centers are coincident.
There are several tiny nicks in the wood veneer that are in the photos.
Gramaohone review 1996: />
"Model Three has a remarkably neutral tonal balance, substantially free of the lower-midrange anomalies which colour the human voice (in particular) and which through a sort of 'collective absorption' over the years have come to give something of a false meaning to the term hi-fl. These are not 'hi-fl' loudspeakers, then, they are high fidelity loudspeakers of the first rank, capable of drawing the listener into a sound world which is truly believable." -- Gramaphone
