RARE DESIRABLE 16\" BROWN-EYED GREINER CHINA HEAD DOLL 1850s ORIGINAL DRESS EXC:
$859.00

Offered for sale is this superlative example of what is referred to as a Greiner style china head doll. This antique china shoulder head doll isperfect with no chips, cracks, damage or repairs. She is exceptionally well-modelled and decorated. Everything about her is appealing from head-to-toe and she has great presence.
Most china head dolls are unmarked as is this one, but she is attributed to the Kloster Veilsdorf porcelain factory in Germany and was made in the 1850s. This particular mold is not frequently found and she has the added desirable feature of brown eyes. She even has a slight smile. Her hairstyle is center-parted with a white line, molded wavy strands with exposed ears and many rows of vertical curls that end at the nape of her neck. She has a short neck, as is typical of the Greiner style china heads, which gives her the look of a child. Her porcelain is pure and translucent and she is a high-quality example.
She retains her original body and I have looked her over but not undressed so as not to damage her original period silk dress that is a brown, black, and cream plaid in an off-the-shoulder style with wide lace collar, short puffed sleeves, and a cartridge-pleated full skirt just as the children\'s fashions of the 1850s and 1860s. There are some few, expected little nips in the silk but it is sturdy. I have exposed the shoulderplate for my photos included in this listing. Her arms are white kid with individually-stitched fingers and so perfectly done that I am not sure that they are replaced. Besides her gown, she has a full chemise,a lace-trimmed [ettocpat that feels starched as it makes her dress fan out wide as if she had a hoop on underneath. Her pantaloons stop at the knee, are laced-trimmed and likely replaced as they don\'t go all the way up, much like the Victorians had separate sleeves, or engageants to wear as changeable accessories to their dresses. She has tiny little brown leather flat shoes.
Her last owner had a beautiful doll stand made for her; it is a moss green velvet-covered & padded square with gold braid and gold colored upholstery tacks. It really adds to her appearance and she is already a desirable size. Please message me with any questions you may have; I am always happy to help. All items come from smoke-free, pet-free home. Also, please consider the photos to be part of my description. Thanks for your interest in my sales and I hope you will stop by again when you have the time!
