There is a large crack in the center of the cover. The hinge may be broken or it cannot be kept open, but it can be opened and closed.
I think it is a rare item because it is almost 50 years old and in working condition. If you have any concerns, you may be able to use it while enjoying the atmosphere of those days if you have it repaired.
