Tony Ray’s Aero Model Bleriot XI

This Tony Ray’s laser cut balsa scale model of the Bleriot XI is a micro balsa construction kit, designed for RC use with micro radio equipment (sold separately), though it is also ideal for building as a static display model.

Great for flying outdoors in small spaces such as parks or playing fields on calm days, the model is also suitable for indoor flying (sport hall etc.).

Accessories such as glues, basic craft tools and a flat modelling board will be required to complete, as well as your choice of RC equipment.

Please note we have uploaded a video of the model flying in too much of a breeze. Only going to prove what an exceptional flying model this is. If you have any video of your Bleriot flying we\'d love to see it and share it with other modellers.

Controversy

Choosing a well known soft drink in a can to represent some by which to \'size\' the model has not been without it\'s critics ( See Photos) . We would like to point out that we also display the model a small bottle of spring water to show the healthy option. Its obvious which drink is the best regards healthy eating, but one thing we would state is you can\'t clean coins or metal in spring water.... just saying..

Hints and Tips

Tony Ray’s Laser Cut Balsa Scale Avro 504K model is such a lovely looking aircraft it can be built static or as a flying model. It has been designed to take Micro Radio Control and various types can be fitted or adapted.

Some might want to use donor RC gear from UMX aircraft that are passed their fly by date or you can go the recommended route of installing the RC or with very small modifications fit an RC board with servos and ESC installed (the type of board used in the E-Flite, ParkZone, FlyZone, Ares Models etc.).

To keep the weight down, covering the model in tissue is the obvious choice.

Our own Tony Ray Models have had tissue applied with Pritt stick and then shrunk with water. We have not bothered to dope our indoor models and they have proved to be robust enough for indoors without Dope. Of course, using convention Dope or Eze Dope will strengthen the model, though will add weight.

Other lightweight model coverings such as LiteSpan or SoLite could also be used.

The laser cutting makes building a joy. If a part does not fit, you have it in the wrong place

A link to download the .pdf manual will be sent included with the kit, if you require this sending by email, or require an additional copy for any reason after your purchase, you are welcome to message us providing your email address and we will supply a direct link to you, where it can be downloaded free of charge.

The Full Size Aircraft

Louis Charles Joseph Blériot Born 1 July 1872 – Died 1 August 1936) was a French aviator, inventor, and engineer.

He developed the first practical headlamp for cars and established a profitable business manufacturing them, using much of the money he made to finance his attempts to build a successful aircraft.

Blériot was the first to use a combination of hand/arm-operated joystick and foot-operated rudder control for the basic format of aerodynamic aircraft control systems, which is still in use to the present day. Blériot was also the first to make a working, powered, piloted monoplane. In 1909 he became world-famous for making the first aeroplane flight across the English Channel, winning the prize of £1,000 offered by the Daily Mail newspaper. He was the founder of a successful aircraft manufacturing company. The crossing was to seal the name Bleriot in the history books forever and anyone who knows anything about aviation will have heard of the Bleriot Aircraft and its success.

Blériot was a spectator at Voisin\'s first trials of the float-plane glider he had built on 8 June 1905. Cine photography was among Blériot\'s hobbies, and the film footage of this flight was shot by him. The success of these trials prompted him to commission a similar machine from Voisin, the Blériot II glider. After this came many experimental aircraft each one becoming more successful than the last.

Bleriot and his partners survived a number of air crashes and accidents before he started concentrating on his next machine.

This, the Blériot VII, was a monoplane with tail surfaces arranged in what has become the modern conventional layout (apart from its use of differential elevators movement for lateral control). This aircraft, which first flew on 16 November 1907, has been recognised as the first successful monoplane. More marks and more flights and crashes and achievement would eventually lead to the type XI which became famous for the Channel Crossing. The type XI was built and sold 18 months after the crossing, by which time over 100 aircraft had been sold. With the conventional rudder bar and Joystick, the type X1 is the first aircraft to establish standards of control and configuration.
