Florida Highwaymen – Harold Newton – Original Florida Landscape Oil Painting Provenance
Offered for sale is a beautiful Florida landscape painting attributed to Harold Newton, one of the pioneering artists associated with the celebrated Florida Highwaymen movement. The painting captures a tranquil coastal scene illuminated by soft golden light. Tall palm trees frame the waterfront, while lush tropical vegetation, a rustic waterside cottage, a small wooden dock, and a moored boat create a nostalgic view of old Florida. The atmospheric sky and shimmering reflections across the water give the composition a peaceful, timeless character.
Harold Newton was among the original artists associated with the Florida Highwaymen, a group of African American landscape painters who became known for their expressive depictions of Florida’s natural beauty. Their paintings frequently featured palms, waterways, dramatic skies, and tropical landscapes, helping establish an important chapter in Florida’s art history.
The work displays the atmospheric landscape imagery and tropical subject matter sought by collectors of Florida Highwaymen art. Its warm palette, layered greenery, and reflective water make it an appealing piece for a Florida art collection, a coastal home, or a traditional interior.
