This is the rare Japanese-market release of the North American SEGA Genesis Mini 2, sold in Japan as a limited Amazon.co.jp exclusive.

Unlike the standard Japanese Mega Drive Mini 2, this special edition is essentially the North American Genesis Mini 2—complete with its North American Genesis branding, console design, packaging style, and game lineup—but packaged specifically for the Japanese market.

What makes this version especially collectible is the Japan-exclusive outer slipcover fitted over the standard North American-style Genesis Mini 2 box. The slipcover adds the required Japanese-market information, including the CERO rating, Japanese warranty information and domestic product labeling, while leaving the distinctive North American Genesis packaging underneath.

SEGA released this version in limited quantities for the Japanese domestic market through Amazon Japan, making it far less commonly encountered than either the regular North American Genesis Mini 2 or the standard Japanese Mega Drive Mini 2.

In other words, this is not simply a Japanese Mega Drive Mini 2 and it is not the normal U.S. retail release. It is a unique crossover edition: the North American Genesis Mini 2 presented as an official Japanese-market release.

The console retains the North American Genesis Mini 2 software library, including its mixture of Genesis, Sega CD and bonus titles, while the packaging and product identification distinguish it as the Japanese domestic release.
