Containing the whole art of cookery, in all its new and fashionable varieties; with proper instructions for baking, roasting, boiling, broiling, frying, hashing, stewing, fricaseeing, ragooning, with confectionary in all its branches...brewing...distilling...also, the complete art of carving, and the performing of honours of the table with grace and propriety. Likewise new bills of fare; made dishes of all descriptions; directions for marketing; etc., etc.

Published in 1810 by M. Jones in London. Second edition. Bound in later 3/4 navy blue morocco with raised spine bands and gilt-lettered red leather spine labels. Octavo, 8 3/8\" x 5 3/8\". Collated and complete:[1 preliminary leaf and frontispiece leaf] including frontispiece leaf, v-viii Preface, 403, [21] index and inner blank. (This publication is a bit quirky with the publisher plate page instructing the printer to place the plates out of order and in, sometimes, odd locations not aligned with corresponding text.) Refreshed endpapers. All 22 plates (12 Bill of fare plates and 10 Market guide plates with diagrams showing where cuts of meat are derived from various animals).
CONDITION REPORT
The book is in Good condition.
Exterior and binding: Square spine, firm hinges and joints, tight pages. Colorful, unfaded morocco. Rubbing to extremities. Darkened top edge (per usual). Some slight flaking to spine labels.
Interior: Refreshed endpapers. Former bookseller notes in pencil on FFEP including describing how excessively scarce this title is. Offsetting from plates, creasing, some marginal paper chips, small losses and tears. Leaves 29 and 21 with fore-margin trimmed, 49-50 loss to fore-margin. Foot of fore-margin corner loss on an Index page (corner was placed in the gutter by previous owner). Text not affected by these marginal paper deficiencies. Text block varies from white or lightly toned in a few small sections to toned to large sections of heavily foxed/browning. A few smudges and stray marks.
