Includes 8 full-page illustrations total: 1 frontispiece and 7 portrait plates. Portraits include notable Massachusetts figures such as Samuel Adams, John Adams, Daniel Webster, Charles Sumner, Edward Everett, Henry Wilson and others. Frontispiece depicts The Evacuation of Boston, March 17, 1776.
Condition:
This is a very poor binding copy, being sold as-is. The front cover is completely detached. The spine covering is severely deteriorated with extensive loss and separation, exposed binding materials, and old clear tape repairs. The remaining spine covering is extremely fragile and is actively deteriorating/falling away. Small pieces may continue to detach during handling or shipping. Leather is heavily worn, chipped, torn and deteriorated.
Despite the severely damaged exterior, the interior is substantially better preserved. Pages show expected age toning, foxing, spotting and occasional staining. Illustrated plates remain attractive with varying foxing/toning.
