Offered here is a 1921 High Relief Peace Silver Dollar, certified by NGC as AU Details – Stained.
The 1921 Peace Dollar is one of the most important and distinctive coins in the series. It was the first year of the Peace Dollar and the only year in which the high-relief design was produced in quantity for regular circulation. The high relief proved difficult to strike effectively, leading the Mint to substantially reduce the relief for regular production beginning in 1922.
Production began only during the final days of 1921 at the Philadelphia Mint, resulting in a relatively low mintage of just 1,006,473 pieces. All regular 1921 Peace Dollars were struck in the distinctive high-relief format.
Designed by Anthony de Francisci, the obverse features Liberty wearing a radiant crown, while the reverse depicts a bald eagle perched upon a mountaintop with rays of the rising sun in the background and the word PEACE below. De Francisci modeled Liberty after his wife, Teresa.
This example retains About Uncirculated-level detail, but NGC has assigned a Details grade due to staining. The NGC designation is fully disclosed and should be considered when evaluating the coin.

As the first-year, high-relief issue of the Peace Dollar series, the 1921 has long been a popular coin with both Peace Dollar specialists and U.S. type collectors. Its relatively low mintage and unique high-relief format distinguish it from the regular low-relief Peace Dollars that followed.
