This is what 105 years of hard living looks like.
1921-S from San Francisco - the tough semi-key from the recession year. They didn't make many in 1921, and the S-mints are the ones everyone needs for their book. This little penny has definitely earned its retirement.
Front side - 1921 is still bold, and if you zoom in on that microscope shot at 4.0x you can see that little S mint mark hiding right under the date - that's the money marker. LIBERTY is soft but still there, Lincoln is smooth on top but you can still tell it's old Abe.
Back side - ONE CENT is big and strong in the middle, the wheat stalks are faded but framing it, and UNITED STATES is readable. It's got that rough, crusty look - pitting, some dark crust on the rims, a little green in spots - I photographed it close so you see exactly what you're getting. No surprises. This is a budget hole-filler, not a beauty queen.
Perfect if you just need to fill that 1921S hole without spending $20-30 for a pretty one. You can always upgrade later, but you'll have the semi-key in the album.
