Original World War II V-Mail instructional/sample piece dated November 11, 1943, mounted on period card stock. The V-Mail form is addressed to Pvt. Willard J. Roe, Company F, 167th Infantry, APO 801, from John R. Roe of Washington, D.C.
The printed form explains the advantages of the wartime V-Mail system, including faster handling, security, popularity, and the enormous savings in cargo space achieved by photographing letters onto microfilm. Mounted at the upper left is a small dark film sample, apparently representing the actual microfilm stage of the V-Mail process. A period handwritten notation above reads “V-mail film & sample letter.” V-Mail used standardized letter sheets that were photographed onto 16 mm microfilm, transported overseas, and then enlarged for delivery.
Mounted on period board with additional handwritten notation on the reverse. Condition shows age, toning, handling wear, edge wear, and mounting as shown. The film sample remains stapled in place. Please review all photos carefully for condition and contents.
Sold as is and as found. Please ask any and all questions BEFORE committing to purchase. Thank you.
